Fallen Leaves Can Pose Driving Problems
Fall has come and with the change of the seasons the leaves have begun to turn brilliant colors. The leaves in autumn are very beautiful but they can give drivers problems when they get damp or they are left in piles.
When fall begins you should have your vehicle inspected from top to bottom, especially the tires and brakes. Many people know that driving over puddles or standing water can result in lost control of your vehicle; like hydroplaning. People are less aware that wet leaves can also be risky to drivers. Wet leaves can hinder your car's braking and steering abilities. This can be very detrimental at intersections or hilly areas where you break on a hill. If you need to accelerate quickly your car's wheels may spin and fishtail.
Leaves that aren't wet can be detrimental to your vehicle too. They can cover up a pothole or cover up curb markings that help to guide you. Parking in a pile of dry leaves has also been known to start car fires.
If you want to prevent your car from slipping or spinning out then the most important thing you can do is make sure your tires are in great shape and properly inflates, as well as having regular brake inspections. This way you can have full control of your vehicle and drive as safe as possible.
